We’ve always found little reason to like Arlen Specter, except that he’s old and we really like the olds. That changed after Specter (D-Penn.) and Michele Bachmann (R-Bat-Shit-Crazy-Ville) got into a couple heated exchanges during a radio talk show in Philadelphia. Perhaps the funniest thing about the exchange below is how mild it is. Check it, from CNN’s Political Ticker:
A heated political debate and charges of sexism erupted on Philadelphia talk radio Wednesday when Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pennsylvania, told Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, to “act like a lady.”
Specter and Bachmann appeared on WPHT radio to discuss the what President Obama has accomplished in his first year in office. When Specter began to respond to Bachmann’s claim that Scott Brown’s special election victory in Massachusetts was a repudiation of the Obama administration’s policies, Bachmann interjected – to the clear frustration of the longtime Senator.
“I didn’t interrupt you,” Specter said. “This is beginning to sound like a TV talk show.”
Yikes! Settle down there, old man! Everyone knows that expecting Michele Bachmann to not talk nonsense over the airwaves is liking asking gravity to knock it the fuck off. That she interrupted her fellow guest, an evil sort-of-Democrat, is also not a surprise.
When Bachmann interrupted again, Specter angrily responded. “Now wait a minute, I’ll stop and you can talk,” he said. “I’ll treat you like a lady, so act like one.”
“I am a lady,” Bachmann retorted.
Rumor has it during a commercial break Bachmann produced a picture of each of her five children and asked Specter, “Do you think these babes just fell from God’s vagina? He needs an earthly vessel, you know.” To which Specter allegedly responded, “I’m in a different state than you. I don’t know what you’re talking about because I can’t see you, you twit.”
When Bachmann interrupted Specter a third time, he really got angry and called her a stupid bitch and again asked her to act like a lady. Of course, if Bachmann had any sense of decorum, she would have kept her mouth shut like a reasonable person, and Specter’s right to be peeved. But to ask her to act like a lady? What is this, 16th century Wales?
Here’s the punchline.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is hoping to defeat Specter this November if he survives a Democratic primary challenge from Rep. Joe Sestak, seized on the comment
“Instead of belittling his female colleagues, Arlen Specter should take his own advice and act like a gentleman,” said NRSC spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson Marchand. She said that the five-term Senator would be held accountable by women in his state “if he makes it to the General Election in November.”
The NRSC wants 78-year-old Arlen Specter unseated because he dared speak to Michele Bachmann like he would a spoiled child? That’s rich. We suggest voters of Minnesota’s 6th district hold Bachmann accountable for being a backward, Bible-thumping, hate-spewing Jesus freak. If the 6th district still has a seat, that is.
