Remember a few months ago when one scientist said the word “trick” and then used a bunch of big adult words, and how everyone who thinks the world is 3,000 years old freaked out because OMG, I KNOW A MAN IN THE SKY MADE US BECAUSE I HEARD IT ON MY BIBLE-ON-TAPE!?
Yeah, well, not surprisingly, said scientist has been cleared of wrongdoing.
A Pennsylvania State University committee yesterday cleared climate researcher Michael Mann of professional-misconduct charges but said it would further investigate whether the scientist “deviated from accepted practices.”
The e-mail message that has most often been held up as evidence against Mann was written by a colleague. It referred to a “trick” Mann used to display some of his data. The panel concluded that this referred not to any attempted deception but to a technique for displaying data graphically.
University spokesman Bill Mahon said Penn State had received a torrent of complaints from people outside the university who were concerned that something inappropriate had happened.
Many of the complaints were anonymous e-mail, said Mahon, from “folks who have no facts – more along the lines of, ‘Fire Michael Mann, he’s a horrible person.’ “
To be fair (journalistically), the article also says there are still investigations going on and they want more info on one count. Another point to consider: no matter what any investigation or science in general turns up, amateur scientists like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin will always know better, and none of this matters! USA USA USA!
