Honest to goodness, this story isn’t from the Onion and is from this century. Thomas Mitchell, the editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal (the largest circulating daily newspaper in the state), asked in an op-ed today if it’s time to repeal the 19th Amendment, which granted women suffrage. His rationale? According to recent polls, women support Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over his Republican opposition regardless of the Republican opponent he’s pitted against.
Want even more evidence? Mitchell unearths polling data that in the 3rd Congressional district race, women also favor the Democratic candidate! It doesn’t matter to Mitchell that in each of said polls, men support the Republican candidate (by larger margins than the women support the Democrat); it’s all so clear to him: women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
This is how he closes out his op-ed. Again, seriously:
Men are consistent. Women are fickle and biased.
Then look down the questionnaire to the 3rd Congressional District race pitting Republican Dr. Joe Heck against Democratic incumbent Dina Titus. Men went with Heck 58-36, while women leaned toward Titus 52-40.
Yes, women are fickle and biased, which is why they should just stay in the kitchen, and leave all the thinkin’ to the men folk. Does anybody out there really disagree with this sentiment? (Only asking the men, obviously)
